During the recovery period after rhinoplasty , the body needs energy to effectively heal the recently operated nose. Therefore, it is logical to avoid strenuous physical activities and exercises for some time to allow the nose to heal successfully. Exercise and intense physical activity, especially in the early days after surgery, can be harmful and may exert pressure on the nose, potentially leading to irreversible complications.
Although it is advised to avoid exercise and rest more after rhinoplasty, gentle walking is necessary to ensure proper blood circulation. Good blood circulation promotes adequate blood and oxygen supply to the operated nose, speeding up the healing process.
From the third day after surgery, walk for three minutes daily.
From the second week after surgery, walk for half an hour daily in three 10-minute intervals.
In the third week, walk three times a day for 15 minutes each time, calmly and without putting pressure on the nose.
From the sixth week, you can resume walking as per your usual routine before the surgery.
Swimming should be avoided for at least two months after rhinoplasty. Swimming can expose the healing internal and external nasal wounds to the risk of infection. Additionally, wearing swimming goggles can pressure the nasal cartilage, and diving can cause serious damage to the nose.
While yoga and Pilates are gentle exercises, they can raise blood pressure. Moreover, these exercises often involve bending the head, which is harmful to the nose. Therefore, it is better to avoid these exercises for 2 to 3 weeks after surgery.
Volleyball and other ball sports like football and basketball are considered strenuous physical activities. Engaging in them while the nasal wounds are still healing can increase the risk of severe complications such as bleeding. Moreover, there is a risk of the ball hitting your nose, causing significant injury. Thus, these activities should be avoided until the nose has fully healed.
Aerobic exercises require a lot of oxygen. During the recovery period, it is crucial to ensure that oxygen is adequately supplied to the nasal tissues to promote optimal healing. Therefore, instead of using oxygen for aerobic exercise, direct it towards healing your nose. Avoid aerobic exercises for at least one month after surgery.
Hula hooping involves significant body movement and can raise blood pressure, leading to nasal bleeding or blood clot formation. It is best to postpone this activity for several months.
Weightlifting is a strength-based exercise that consumes a lot of energy. Performing this exercise can slow the healing process of nasal wounds and, due to the pressure it exerts on the nose, may cause bleeding or even drooping of the nasal tip. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid weightlifting for at least three months after rhinoplasty.
The type of exercise influences the duration of restriction. Activities such as walking and other light exercises have shorter restriction periods, while strenuous exercises should be avoided for several months.
Any physical activity or exercise that consumes body energy, raises blood pressure, or exerts pressure on the nose and its healing tissues should be avoided for a period after surgery. The duration of exercise prohibition varies based on the intensity of the activity. Therefore, it is essential to consult your doctor before resuming any exercise after rhinoplasty.
